Starting yesterday, June 28, 2026, Walt Disney World Resort has officially implemented new restrictions on resort transportation departing from Disney Springs. Guests hoping to board complimentary buses or watercraft from the shopping and dining district will now need to demonstrate one of several qualifying credentials before being permitted to use the service.
What the New Rules Require
Under the updated policy, guests departing Disney Springs via Disney-operated resort buses or watercraft must present one of the following:
- A confirmed Walt Disney World Resort hotel reservation
- A confirmed dining reservation at a Disney World restaurant
- A confirmed experience reservation, such as a ticketed event or activity
Guests who cannot show proof of one of these qualifying reservations will no longer be permitted to board resort transportation from Disney Springs. This represents a significant operational shift for the popular dining and entertainment district, which has long served as a de facto free transportation hub for non-resort guests looking to access the broader Walt Disney World campus.
Why Disney Made This Change
Disney has not issued a formal public statement detailing the specific reasoning behind the policy, but the move is widely seen as an effort to reduce overcrowding on resort transportation systems and prioritize access for paying resort guests. Disney Springs itself remains open to all visitors regardless of hotel or reservation status — only the complimentary resort transportation departing from the area is affected.
Loopholes That Remain
Despite the new rules, certain workarounds remain available for guests who do not have a qualifying reservation. Notably, guests can still make a dining reservation at many Disney World restaurants — including locations at Disney Springs itself — and use that reservation to qualify for resort transportation. Given the broad range of dining options across the resort, this remains a relatively accessible option for many visitors. Guests can also arrive at Disney Springs via personal vehicle or rideshare services without any restrictions, as only outbound resort transportation is affected.
What This Means for Your Visit
If you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World and intend to use Disney Springs as part of your transportation strategy, it is now more important than ever to plan ahead. Securing a dining reservation before your visit is the simplest way to ensure continued access to complimentary resort transportation from the district.
